Bandfin Darter (Etheostoma zonistium)

The Bandfin Darter is widespread on the Coastal Plain in the Tennessee and Hatchie river drainages. Like other snubnose darters, their snouts are blunt and they reside in the transition zone from pools to riffles. Breeding males develop a bright red body with a green head and two red bands in the first dorsal fin.
