Blacktail Shiner (Cyprinella venusta)

Description:

The Blacktail Shiner is widely distributed across the eastern United States from Texas and Oklahoma to Florida and Georgia including the Mobile Basin. They are found in rocky and sandy pools and runs of creeks to medium rivers. As the common name suggests, the Blacktail Shiner has a black spot at the base of the tail. Like other members of its genus, Blacktail Shiners have diamond-shaped scales and spawn in crevices.
