Popeye Shiner (Notropis ariommus)

Description:

The Popeye Shiner has disjunct populations in the Ohio River Drainage from Tennessee to Pennsylvania, including the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers. They are found in clear flowing pools over clean gravel substrate in creeks to medium rivers. As the common name suggests, Popeye Shiners have an eye that “pops out” in appearance due to their large size.
