Saffron Darter (Etheostoma flavum)

Description:

The Saffron Darter is found in eastern tributaries of the lower Tennessee River Drainage in Tennessee and Kentucky. Like many members of the Snubnose Darter group, they have a blunt snout, and they reside in the transition zone from pools to riffles. As the common name suggests, breeding male Saffron Darters have saffron or yellow gold lips, lower side, and belly.
