Sand Shiner (Notropis stramineus)

Description:

The Sand Shiner is widespread and common throughout central North America from Texas to Saskatchewan east to Quebec. As the common name suggests, Sand Shiners are found in sandy and fine gravel runs and pools of creeks to large rivers. Like many other species in the genus Notropis, Sand Shiners have a pattern on their lateral line scales that resembles cross-stitching.
