Spotfin Shiner (Cyprinella spiloptera)

Description:

The Spotfin Shiner is found from North Dakota and Oklahoma eastward to Quebec including the Tennessee and Cumberland river drainages. They are found in both pools and runs of creeks to medium rivers in a variety of water clarity. Like other members of its genus, Spotfin Shiners have diamond-shaped scales and spawn in crevices. They can be distinguished from the similar Steelcolor Shiner (C. whipplei) by the position of the lateral stripe and dorsal fin pigmentation.
