Bandfin Darter (Etheostoma zonistium)

The Bandfin Darter is widespread on the Coastal Plain in the Tennessee and Hatchie river drainages. Like many members of the Snubnose Darter group, they have a blunt snout, and they reside in the transition zone from pools to riffles. Breeding males develop a bright red body with a green head and two red bands in the first dorsal fin.
