Description:
As the common name suggests, the Bankhead Darter is found in the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River System of the Mobile Basin in Alabama, primarily in the Bankhead National Forest. They live over gravel substrate in pools and the heads of riffles in creeks to medium rivers. While most darters are found on stream bottoms, members of the genus Percina tend to be found higher in the water column because they retain a swim bladder.
