Blackspotted Topminnow (Fundulus olivaceus)

The Blackspotted Topminnow is widespread throughout the south central United States in Gulf Coast drainages from Texas to Florida and north in the Mississippi River Basin to Missouri and Illinois. They are found in slow-moving water in small creeks to small rivers in pools and backwaters. As the common name suggests, Blackspotted Topminnows have a stripe along their head and body, as well as black spots above the stripe and on their fins. As with all topminnows, they live at the top of the water column.
