River Redhorse (Moxostoma carinatum)

The River Redhorse has a patchy distribution across central North America from Louisiana to Quebec, including the Mobile Basin, Tennessee, and Cumberland river drainages. As the common name suggests, River Redhorses live in a variety of currents over rocky substrate in large streams to rivers. They have a bright red tail fin. Like other redhorses, River Redhorses have large lips and a mouth that can extend downward for feeding on the substrate.
