Sipsey Darter (Etheostoma sp. cf. bellator A)

The Sipsey Darter is restricted to the Sipsey Fork of the upper Black Warrior River System in the Mobile Basin in central Alabama. Like many members of the Snubnose Darter group, their snouts are blunt, they have a bright red dot in the first membrane of their first dorsal fin, and they reside in the transition zone from pools to riffles. Breeding males develop a wide range of colors including green, blue, red, and yellow.
