Wounded Darter (Etheostoma vulneratum)

The Wounded Darter is found in the upper Tennessee River Drainage in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. They live in clear riffles with gravel substrate in small to medium rivers. Like many other members of the subgenus Nothonotus, Wounded Darters have a moderately pointed snout. As the common name suggests, Wounded Darters have red spots on their side and a red wash on their fins that resemble wounds.
