Yellow Bass (Morone mississippiensis)

The Yellow Bass is found in rivers along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Alabama, the Mississippi River Drainage from Louisiana to Wisconsin, and tributaries to Lake Michigan. They occupy pools and backwaters of lakes and small to large rivers. As the common name suggests, Yellow Basses have an overall yellow coloration on their head and body. They can be distinguished from other Moronidae (Temperate Basses) by having broken lower horizontal stripes along their body.
