The Headwater Darter is found throughout many drainages of middle Kentucky and north-central Tennessee. As the common name suggests, Headwater Darters are found in headwater streams. As in other members of the Orangethroat Darter species complex, males have a hump on their nape, a blue anal fin, and bright coloration.
