Freckled Darter
Percina lenticula
About This Fish

The Freckled Darter is found in the Pearl, Pascagoula, and Mobile Basin drainages from Louisiana to Georgia. They live over rocky substrate in deep, fast water near structure in small to large rivers. As the common name suggests, Freckled Darters have freckles on their belly. These are the largest darter, reaching 8 inches! While most darters are found on stream bottoms, members of the genus Percina tend to be found higher in the water column because they retain a swim bladder.
