As the common name suggests, the Alabama Bass is primarily found within Alabama but also occurs in Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee in the Mobile Basin. They live in clear, rocky, flowing pools of rivers and shallow, rocky areas of lakes and reservoirs. This species was recently described out of the Micropterus punctulatus (Spotted Bass) complex.
