As the common name suggests, Atlantic Croakers are found in Gulf and Atlantic coast drainages from Mexico to Massachusetts, including Mobile Basin. They live in sand and mud substrate in marine and brackish waters. As the common name also suggests, Atlantic Croakers, like other members of the drum family, make a croaking or drumming sound using their gas bladder.
