The Bayou Killifish is found along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts from Texas to Virginia, including the Mobile Basin. As the common name suggests, Bayou Killifish are found in both brackish and fresh water, in tidal streams and inlets. As the latin term pulverus implies, they have “dusty” coloration on their back and dark bars along their sides. As with all topminnows, they live at the top of the water column.
