Bluespotted Sunfish
Enneacanthus gloriosus
About This Fish

The Bluespotted Sunfish is found in Gulf and Atlantic coast drainages from Mississippi to New York. They are typically found in lowland slow waters, including streams, ponds, and rivers over soft substrate with aquatic vegetation. As the common name suggests, these beautiful fish have rows of iridescent blue spots on their head, body, and fins. Unlike most sunfishes, Bluespotted Sunfish construct nests in vegetation rather than gravel or sand.
