Cumberland Darter
Etheostoma susanae
About This Fish

As the common name suggests, this federally endangered species is found in the Cumberland River Drainage, where it is currently restricted to tributaries above Cumberland Falls. They are found in slow-moving sections, usually pools and stream banks with sandy or rocky substrate, of small to medium rivers. Cumberland Darters have a coloration of brown W’s and X’s on their sides, and breeding males develop dark fins with black edges.
