Diamond Darter
Crystallaria cincotta
About This Fish

The Diamond Darter was historically found in the Ohio River Drainage from the Cumberland River in Kentucky and Tennessee to Ohio and West Virginia. Currently this species is only found in the Elk River, West Virginia. They live over clean sand or gravel in swift-moving water of small to medium rivers. They have a slender and translucent body, sparkling from reflected light when viewed at night, and they are rare, which is reflected in their common name.
