The Dixie Chub is found in Gulf Coast drainages from Alabama to Florida, including the Mobile Basin, as well as Bear Creek in the middle Tennessee River Drainage. They live over sand or gravel pools of headwaters to small rivers. Breeding male Dixie Chubs develop breeding tubercles, horny projections, on their snout that can be used to defend their nests.
