The Eastern Mosquitofish is widespread across Gulf and Atlantic coast drainages from Mississippi to New Jersey. They have been widely introduced worldwide, causing the loss of many native fish species. Eastern Mosquitofish live in slow water in pools, springs, lakes, and backwaters of streams. This species has internal fertilization and gives birth to live young.
