About This Fish

The Golden Silverside has a widespread distribution across Gulf of Mexico and southern Atlantic Slope drainages from Texas to North Carolina. They are found near the surface in a wide variety of habitats in slow-moving water. As the common name suggests, Golden Silversides have golden or yellow fins and silvery sides. They have a translucent body, a red snout shaped like a beak, and two dorsal fins spaced far apart on their back.
