The Inland Silverside is found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from Massachusetts to Mexico, including the Mobile Basin, as well as some inland populations, largely in the Mississippi Embayment, including the Tennessee and Cumberland river drainages. They live in backwaters of coastal streams to large rivers and reservoirs, and they can tolerate a wide variety of salinities. As the common name suggests, Inland Silversides have pale sides with silver stripes.
