About This Fish

The Ironcolor Shiner is widespread along Gulf and Atlantic coast drainages from Mississippi to New York, including the lower Mobile Basin in Alabama, with disjunct populations in the Sabine and Mississippi river drainages. They are found in slow-moving areas of swamps and creeks with aquatic vegetation. As the common name suggests, Ironcolor Shiners have a dark metallic-colored stripe along their side.
