About This Fish

The Palezone Shiner has a disjunct distribution with one population in the Paint Rock River in Alabama and the other population in the Little South Fork of the Cumberland River in Kentucky. This federally endangered species resides in flowing pools over rocks and gravel substrate in small rivers. As the common name suggests, Palezone Shiners have a pale coloration above a darker stripe along their side.
