The Pallid Shiner is found in the Mississippi River Drainage from Louisiana to Minnesota, including restricted populations in the Tennessee and Cumberland River drainages, as well as Gulf Coast drainages in Texas and Louisiana. They live in pools over sand and silt substrate in small to large rivers. As the common name suggests, Pallid Shiners have pale coloration and lack dark pigment.
