The Sailfin Molly is found in Gulf and Atlantic coast drainages from Mexico to North Carolina, including the Mobile Basin. They live over soft substrate in backwaters and pools of freshwater and brackish streams or ditches. As the common name suggests, Sailfin Mollies have a large dorsal fin that resembles a sail.
