The Shadow Bass is found in the Ouachita and Ozark mountains, centered in Arkansas, as well as Gulf Coast drainages from Mississippi to Georgia. They are found in creeks to medium rivers over a variety of substrates, usually associated with cover. The scientific name ariommus refers to the big eye of Shadow Basses, especially in juveniles.
