The Silverband Shiner is widespread throughout the Mississippi River Drainage from South Dakota to Louisiana, including the Cumberland River Drainage, and in Gulf Coast drainages in Texas. They are found in main channels of large rivers. As the common name suggests, Silverband Shiners have a silver band on their body that is lacking in dark pigment.
