The Stippled Studfish is found in tributaries to the Tallapoosa River in the Mobile Basin in Alabama and Georgia. They are found in slow-moving water in small creeks to medium rivers in pools and backwaters. As the common name suggests, Stippled Studfish have interrupted rows of red and brown spots on the side in a stippled pattern. As with all topminnows, they live at the top of the water column.
