Black Redhorse
Moxostoma duquesnei
About This Fish

The Black Redhorse has a patchy distribution across central North America from Alabama to Ontario, including the Mobile Basin, Tennessee, and Cumberland river drainages. They live in pools of creeks and streams over rocky substrate. While the common name is the Black Redhorse, their sides can be dark but also may have a variety of colors from golden to brown olive. Like other redhorses, Black Redhorses have large lips and a mouth that can extend downward for feeding on the substrate.
