The Channel Catfish is found across central and eastern North America, including the Mobile Basin, Tennessee, Cumberland river drainages. As the common name suggests, Channel Catfish live in channels of small to large rivers, as well as creeks and lakes. Catfishes get their name from whiskers (barbels) around their mouths that have taste buds which aid in finding food. Like all North American catfishes, they make nests and protect their eggs and young.
