The Creek Chub is widespread throughout central and eastern North America from Texas to Canada, including the Mobile Basin, Tennessee, and Cumberland river drainages. As the common name suggests, Creek Chubs live in rocky or sandy pools of headwaters to small rivers. Breeding male Creek Chubs develop breeding tubercles, horny projections, on their snout that can be used to defend their nests.
