The Silver Shiner is widespread in Great Lake and Ohio River drainages from Ontario to Alabama, including in all states of the Tennessee and Cumberland river drainages except Mississippi. They live in rocky runs and riffles of small to large rivers. As the common name suggests, Silver Shiners have a silvery stripe along their body.
