The Spotfin Chub is a federally threatened species found in the Tennessee River drainage in clear, medium-sized rivers with bedrock substrate. Though the Spotfin Chub has a broad distribution, the fragmentation across its range and requirements for clear water have negatively impacted this species. During breeding season the males develop bright turquoise coloration with iridescent white crescents.
