The Telescope Shiner has a disjunct distribution in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas and Missouri, as well as Atlantic Coast and Ohio River drainages, including the Tennessee and Cumberland river drainages. They live in rocky riffles of medium creeks to small rivers. The common name refers to the large eyes of Telescope Shiners.
